Lower BMI for chocolate eaters

I heard this on the news yesterday and just had to share.

Healthy people who exercise and also eat chocolate regularly tend to have a lower body mass index than those who eat the rich sweets less often, a study suggested on Monday.

The survey of a population of more than 1,000 adults, published as a research letter in the Archives of Internal Medicine, reinforces the notion that chocolate packs heart healthy benefits, despite its high calorie and sugar content.

People in the study, whose ages ranged from 20 to 85, reported eating chocolate an average of twice a week (I definitely eat more than that) and exercising an average of 3.6 times a week.

Chocolate's benefits are rooted in antioxidant polyphenols which can improve blood pressure, and also help lower cholesterol levels and blood sugar.

A sweet birthday basket

Thanks to my Auntie who was in Edible Arrangements and called me to see if I could do a gift basket for her. Yeah!! I put together a great sampler basket with a round of drink items plus some great ready to eat items and all with Dove Chocolate Discoveries deliciousness. I also included a pack of the note cards that I introduced on my facebook page. I think it came together pretty well, don't you? If you'd like a sample basket for yourself or someone special, for a birthday or just because send me a message or give a ring.

A sweet suprise.

I love being an Independent Chocolatier with Dove Chocolate Discoveries and I could easily give you 50 reasons why. But then, I get a surprise in the mail and I can't help but love my business even more. This weekend I received two canisters of Chardonnay Wine Brittle from our home office. Just because. What a sweet acknowledgement.

This brittle has Caramelized Cocoa Nibs in it. And just last week I was saying that I needed to get me hands on some of those nibs. Particularly these:
They are from a sister company to DCD, and with me being a Dark Chocolate lover, just the thought of tasting these nibs is near orgasmic. **Move 'Find nibs' to top of to-do list**

Do you have a chocolate item that you've just been waiting to taste?

Wishing you sweetness until next time.

No Vitamix or Margarittaville mixer? No problem.

Hi folks, my many years of exploratory cooking has taught me that not all kitchen gadgets are the same. Not all knives are the same, as not all blenders are the same; especially when you're making frozen drinks. Well, with the warm weather happening up us, I have a work-around especially for those that may not have a really powerful blender i.e. vitamix, ninja, margaritaville, etc.

I will use the Dove Chocolate Discoveries New White Chocolate Mango Mojito Mix as an example. (Photo credit)

It comes in a easy to mix packet with instruction on who much liquid and ice to blend it with. What I recommend is blending mixes/powder and liquid separately from the ice. That way you can be sure to get the lumps out and end up with a nice even flavor mixture.

Next, crush ice as best you can in the blender. Once the two are ready, add liquid to blender first then the crushed/broken ice and power up. The now smaller pieces of ice should easily create a nice slushy margarita type of drink. Or, just crush in some extra mint leaves, stir in some ice and garnish to create a mojito any mixologist would be proud off. (Photo credit)

Spring ahead

Orange and chocolate and one of those flavor combos that doesn't seem like it should be, but just works so great together. Maybe it's because they are both tropical fruits (yes, the cocoa tree is a tropical plant). Either way, here is a great combination for you to try. It may help get you ready for spring.

And remember to spring your clocks ahead on Saturday night. Here comes the sun!!!

Dreamsicle Delight

¼ cup cream
½ cup orange juice
Frosty White Chocolate Smoothie Mix
2 teaspoons orange-flavored drink mix
1½ cups ice
Orange slices, for garnish

1. Add cream, orange juice, Smoothie Mix, orange drink mix and ice to an electric blender, in that order.
2. Blend for 30 to 60 seconds, or until mixed thoroughly.
3. Pour into martini glasses and garnish with an orange slice.
Serves 3 to 4
